Printed Matter’s NY Art Book Fair takes place at MoMA PS1 from September 25 to 27, with an Opening Night celebration on Thursday, September 24 from 7 to 10 PM.
Printed Matter’s NY Art Book Fair (NYABF) is the largest international gathering for the distribution of artists’ books, celebrating contemporary artists’ publishing and the medium’s rich history. NYABF 2026 marks 20 years since the first NYABF took place in Chelsea, Manhattan. This year, Printed Matter and MoMA PS1 are also each celebrating their 50th anniversaries. Both artist-centered organizations opened to the public in 1976 and have continued their steadfast commitment to supporting artists ever since.
Initiated in 2006, the NY Art Book Fair is an event where artists’ book publishers distribute their work, connect with broad audiences, and nurture new and longstanding relationships, with many artists responding directly to today’s challenging political and social landscape. NYABF 2026 returns to MoMA PS1 with a shared commitment to the artist-led educational possibilities of this community event. Signature programs such as the discussion series, The Classroom, and music programming on The Stage, will be accompanied by more recent programmatic features like the Reading Room–this year a collaboration with the African Art Book Fair–and expanded presentations of books, prints, and ephemera in our Project Spaces.
NYABF 2026 will feature over 310 exhibitors, including interdisciplinary artistic practices, collectives, small presses, self-publishing artists, rare book dealers, institutions, and distributors. NYABF also offers a discursive platform for engagement in the field of artists’ book publishing through book launches, lectures, exhibitions, discussions, performances, and workshops.
Printed Matter, Inc. is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1976 by artists and art workers with the mission to foster the distribution, understanding, and appreciation of artists' books and related artists' publications. Through the NY and LA Art Book Fairs, two storefronts, an online catalog, and other distribution channels, Printed Matter circulates more than 45,000 publications annually on behalf of artists and independent publishers. Printed Matter also offers comprehensive free public programming, online resources, and educational initiatives for the medium.
